Today one of our clients sent me a video entitled “Eva Mendes Sex Tape”, which I immediately frowned and wondered why this client would be sending me something like this. But I did click the link, and what I found was an absolutely excellent example of some brilliant celebrity reputation management.
Because the video is a spoof, created by Eva herself, and it is taking the world, and the search engines, by storm. Here’s the video:

Now, funny is good, but that’s not the crux of why this video is awesome ORM (online reputation management). Why it’s good ORM is because Eva was being attacked by the search engines prior to this video by would be porn spammers that were trying to nab the search term and people looking for a sex tape containing Eva Mendes. But Eva, and a few other stars, are now fighting fire with fire. They are taking their ORM and their online reputations seriously, and they are taking control of the search engine result pages.
It’s not just Eva Mendes either. I found another video on Funny or Die for another Eva, that’s Eva Longoria. It seems she too was tired of their being a bunch of links in the search engines promoting a non existent Eva Longoria sex tape. So she too made a video, which you can see here:
I also found one for Carrie Prejean in case your interested.
Now what I like about this is that ORM is becoming more and more real to celebrities and they are finding that they need to control what people find in the search engine result pages.
