By now you have to be living under a rock to not have heard about Twitter or Facebook. Your company may even have a person that manages your Twitter account and your Facebook Business page. But let me ask you this… Do you know what other users on these services are saying about you and your company?
Probably not. And that’s a problem. More so now because of the real time search additions Google is currently making to their search result pages. Just a few days ago Google announced that they would be including Facebook updates in the real time search results. Twitter has already been a part of real time search since this update was put into place.
So what does this mean to you? It means that you need to know what people are saying about you on these social networks. If you are not already monitoring it, you should be.
But monitoring your company names and keywords on these social networks is not enough. You might also want to be monitoring the activity of your employees and vendors on these networks. Because what they are doing may be indirectly harming your business substantially.
Consider this. Your receptionist is answering the phone by day, but at night she’s telling the world how awful it is working for your business. Or, maybe she’s just doing outlandish stuff for all the world to see. As a daytime representative for your company her nighttime escapades may be cutting into your bottom line. If so, you have a right to know. In this day and age, some companies even have employement contract clauses that define appropriate off work hour behavior and warn that the employee may be terminated for certain off hour activities documented on public networks. This includes drug use and other illegal activity normally. But can also just be morally based.
Ultimately we live in an information age that is becoming faster and faster when it comes to providing information. Real time search is going to make things even more available to people, which in turn means that companies are going to have to monitor the tide and make sure the information available about your company remains positive.
Our company can monitor your online reviews, Twitter updates and Facebook activity. If you are interested in this service please call our office at 800-818-6286.
